Ordering Guide for Caps and Bags

Caps are typically embroidered and bags can be either embroidered or screen-printed. Caps are usually sold by the dozen, but we can get less than minimum for a charge. Our minimum on bags is six.

Steps to Ordering

  1. Select a cap or bag.
  2. Select embroidery or screen printing.
  3. Select the design and placement.
  4. Receive a formal estimate.
  5. Sign the estimate to begin the order.

Step 1: Select a cap or bag.

Caps

Our favorite caps are from Otto Cap. Caps from Otto all have an adjustable fit back closure, except the OttoFlex, which is a unique flexible fit cap that comes in S-M or L-XL.

Caps come in a variety of fabrics, most are twill cotton or blends, wool, or wool blends. Some of our warm-weather customers here in California claim that wool gets too warm for our climate, but you have lots of choices for your own preferences.

There are several choices to make when selecting a hat. Besides fabric and color ,there are other aesthetic options like two tone, suede trim, pigment dyed, or various trims. Then there is the closure type, like a back buckle, glide, snap or Velcro. You also want to choose between low profile and other styles which might accent your logo differently, or make a difference if you are using the hat for a particular sport. Browse our Otto catalog and see what look you like.

Our top sellers:

19-374 Superior brushed cotton twill
11-417 OttoFlex low profile brushed bull denim
18-203 Pigment dyed two-tone cotton twill

If you would like help making a selection, one of our specialists can review choices with you that are in your budget.

Bags

We have many styles of bags to choose from. Tote bags, book bags, backpacks, and computer bags are just a few. To imprint your name or message on a bag, we would recommend embroidery or screen printing depending on the bag and the design.

Browse through our apparel catalog in the accessories section or look in the promotional catalog under bags for ideas. Give us a call for a quote and for other selections.

Step 2: Select embroidery or screen printing

Type of product

Most hats take well to embroidery, with the exception of those that are foam-backed. We would recommend screen printing for those.

Bags like tote bags usually have a wide enough opening for embroidery access. Canvas totes can be embroidered or screenprinted. If the design is bigger than 5” x 5”, you might want to consider screenprinting. Bags like duffel bags, commuter bags, and back packs usually have a pocket area for your name or message. If the pocket access is large enough, we would usually recommend embroidery, if it is too small we recommend screenprinting.

Step 3: Select the design and placement

Once your logo or design is decided, the placement of the design will dictate the size the design needs to be. Hats are typically placed in front, centered on the crown. Sometimes messages are placed on the back of the hat or visor, or on the sides. Placements on bags vary from bag to bag, depending on the embroidery access, size and location.

Embroider

Mountain Top Designs can help you with a design if you don’t have one. Besides a library of stock designs to choose from, we also have a variety of text fonts. Stock designs and fonts can be put together simply and quickly to create a logo. Or, we can design a logo for you from scratch. See some samples of designs we have created for embroidery.

Once the design, number of designs, design size and placement(s) are determined, you would then submit the design(s) for a stitch count estimate.

If we did not create your design, you may submit your design to us as a computer file in these formats: .pdf, .jpg, .bmp, .cdr (v11) .ai (v9), or .eps (v9).

Your file will then have to be converted to a stitch pattern file for the embroidery machines to read. This process is called digitizing, and is priced by the number of stitches. Most logos are 4000 to 5000 stitches. See Art Services for more info.

Mountain Top Designs will embroider on goods that you provide. Call us for a quote.

Screen Print

Mountain Top Designs can help you with a design for screen printing too. We have a library of stock designs and can be put together simply with your name or message to create the look you want. See some designs we have created for screen printing.
Whether we create the design or you have a design, we will work with you to get the placement that looks the best for the product you have chosen. Art for screen printing must be in camera-ready format (vector). To qualify as camera-ready, the computer file must be in these formats: .cdr (convert text to curves) version 11 or previous, .ai (convert text to outlines) version 9 , or .eps (convert text to outlines) (AI version 9).

If you art is not in one of these formats, you may submit it as: .pdf, .jpg, or .bmp. We can convert it to the right format. See Art Services for more info.

Step 4: Receive a formal estimate.

Your estimate will include style, color and sizes of the products you have chosen.

For embroidery, once we know how many stitches are in your design, we will provide a cost quote for the digitizing (conversion to an embroidery file). Average cost for digitizing is $50.

For screen printing, there will be setup fees for making film and screens, and art charges if necessary (to convert art to vector art.)

The formal quote will provide a cost per product, which includes the imprinting of your design. Prices per piece will go down at higher quantities.

Step 5: Sign the estimate to begin the order.

We will agree to a delivery date, and you will receive your order in that time. Our standard production time is 10 to 12 business days.

We charge 10% of the production cost for rush jobs in 6 to 8 days, 15% for rush jobs in 3 to 5 days, and 20% for rush jobs in 1 to 2 days.
